Shadow Work Isn’t Trendy — It’s Terrifying

A Ritual for Trusting the Voice Within

There are moments when the air changes before anything happens.
When your pulse quickens without reason.
When the world tilts just enough for you to feel it in your bones.

My husband and I were walking down the road one day. At the end of the street, he was about to step off the curb to cross. In that instant, an overpowering wave of terror and sadness crashed over me — so strong it stole my breath. Without thinking, I pulled him into my arms and held on, unable to let go.

As I clung to him, the dread swelled… and then, as if on cue, a vehicle came charging down the road, engine roaring. It tore past us — and with it, the terror and sadness vanished. The air was still again. My body knew before my mind could explain.

The Unshakable Truth of Instinct
Trusting your instincts is not about being dramatic or mystical for its own sake. It’s about survival, sovereignty, and self-respect.
Sometimes your knowing will make no sense to anyone else. Sometimes it will make no sense to you. You may feel “irrational,” “overly sensitive,” or even “crazy” — especially if others dismiss what you feel.

But here’s the truth: your body and spirit are ancient instruments, tuned by every experience, every ancestor, every moment you’ve survived. When they speak, they are not guessing. They are remembering.

To trust yourself is to accept that what you feel is accurate — even if you can’t yet prove it. Even if no one else believes you. Even if you have to act on faith alone.

The Ritual: Mirror of the Inner Voice
You will need:
- A candle (any color that feels protective to you)
- A journal and pen
- A quiet space where you will not be interrupted

Step One: Light & Listen
Light your candle. Close your eyes. Place your hand over your heart and breathe until you can feel its steady rhythm. Whisper to yourself: I am listening.

Step Two: Recall the Knowing
Write down three moments in your life when you felt a strong gut instinct. For each, note:
- What you sensed
- How you responded
- What happened afterward

Step Three: The Protective Circle
Close your eyes again. Imagine a sphere of light surrounding you — a color that feels like safety. See it expand until it holds you completely. In this space, your intuition is clear, your voice is steady, and your knowing is trusted.

Step Four: Seal the Work
Thank your inner voice for speaking, even when it is inconvenient. Extinguish the candle, knowing the light remains within you.

Your Call to Action
In the comments or your own journal, share one thing you have inherited — a belief, a habit, a fear — that you are ready to release. Name it. Witness it. Let it go.

This is not a blog.
It is a mirror.
And the reflection is waiting for you.
